I recently tried the Pure Canvas Illuminating and Hydrating Primers from the Laura Mercier Pure Canvas primer range and absolutely loved them as the first step of my makeup, after moisturizer. The packaging is sleek and pretty and the primers themselves do what they claim to. The Pure Canvas Hydrating Primer ($38; sephora.com) is a super lightweight primer with a silky finish that helps hydrate and even skintone forming a smooth canvas for makeup. It doesn’t have a slip, but manages to add a satin finish without feeling greasy or oily. I love this since my skin leans towards the drier side. The Pure Canvas Illuminating Primer ($38; sephora.com) is a subtly illuminating primer that adds a soft glow to skin. It's a good one for no makeup days and perfect for anyone wanting a subtle glow without looking too slick. Both primers help with longevity of makeup, the hydrating one is a tad better when it comes to keeping my makeup looking fresh and works better under both lightweight bases like tinted moisturizers and medium-full coverage foundations. Both these primers are silicone-free as well.
