I’ve been trying out quite a nice section of products from two affordable brands, Essence & Catrice from their newer launches for fall, so here are some quick thoughts, some hits and misses.
Catrice Ultimate Stay Lip Liner in Plum ($3.99; ulta.com) - Gorgeous color that looks nice even as a stain and stays put. It warms up better with use and the color is pigmented, smooth and just right for fall.
Catrice Prime and Fine Anti-Shine Blur Stick ($7.99; ulta.com) is a swipe on mattifying cream product. It did not do much at taking away shine, but evened out skin tone a little bit. Its okay, for oily skin types, but not a must have.
Catrice Liquid Metal Eyeshaodw in Mauves like Jagger ($4.99; ulta.com) - Such a pretty mauve-purple-grey mix that looks lovely as a wash. I like to apply this by patting it in with my fingers since a brush can create some fallout while blending. The formula is smooth, pigmented and the color is stunning!
Catrice Ultimate Lip Glow ($5.99; ulta.com) is supposed to enhance natural lip color and adjust to your unique shade. It was a very light pink on me and the formula was just okay. It is moisturizing but wears off pretty soon. Still, a quick and easy to product that you could just swipe and go.
Catrice Luminous Lips Lipstick in Read Me a Cherrytale ($5;99; ulta.com) is a bright pinky red with a beautiful cream formula and glossy finish. It goes on smooth, feels moisturizing and the color is so pretty!
Beautifying Lip Smoother in Apricot Cream ($4.99; ulta.com) - Reminds me of a pocket friendly version of the Clarins Eclat Minute Light Natural Lip Perfector. Its a smooth lip cream-gloss with a sheer wash of color. The sponge applicator is lovely and the product itself is great for the price.
Catrice Eyebrow Filler Perfecting and Shaping Gel in Light Brown ($6; ulta.com) - Not really the perfect color for my brows, but from my very short trial, I found the formula to be strong hold, but one that easily fades overtime. If you can find your color, its a good one to try.
Catrice Luxury Lashes Mascara ($7.99; ulta.com) - Very natural looking definition and volume after curling lashes. It doesn’t leave lashes looking too stiff and crunchy even after a good 2-3 coats.
Essence Mosaic Blush in Berry Connection ($3.99; essencemakeup.com) - Great pigmentation, nice formula, a tad powdery but definitely lovely for the price and the color is fabulous.
Essence The Velvets Eyeshdow in Mr. mocca-bean ($2.49; essencemakeup.com) - Beautiful matte texture, blendable and the color is a dark neutral brown that is so versatile and easy to use as a shadow and liner!
Essence The Smokey Eye Pencil in Back to Black ($2.49; essencemakeup.com) - Easy to smudge, works on the waterline and the color is a nice, jet black. It can feel a tad stiff and will warm up with use.
Essence Prettifying Lip Oil in SOS, My heart ($2.99; essencemakeup.com) - Great as a gloss or by itself. Its very moisturizing, has a sheer wash of color and the size is good to throw into the smallest of bags.
Essence Dip Eyeliner in Black ($2.99; essencemakeup.com) - A quick and easy liquid liner that is super dark and slightly glossy. Easy to use since the tip is not too wobbly, but it isn't waterproof and can easily rub off when it comes in contact with water.
Essence Pure Nude Highlighter ($4.49; ulta.com) - Amazing for the price! Great texture, smooth consistency and doesn’t look glittery or too shimmery, The color is a warm golden peach and perfect for medium-dark skin tones.
Essence Forbidden Volume Mascara ($4.49; ulta.com) - Not the most volumizing, but good at lengthening and separation - very natural looking lashes.
Essence Smokey 2-in-1 Kohl Liner in White ($3.49; ulta.com) - This one was a miss for me. The texture was smooth, but the white doesn’t stay put on the waterline and vanishes too quickly. Its not a very flattering white for the waterline too.
Essence 2 in 1 Eyeshadow and Liner in Light Me Up ($4.49; ulta.com) - Good as a base, but not the best by itself. The color is a tad too light for me and the formula was a touch difficult to blend too. Probably just the color I tried, but I do love a good chubby stick for my eyes since they are quick, easy and effortless in general.
