Dermalogica’s new Phyto Replenish Oil ($75; dermalogica.com) is a lightweight facial oil for normal to dry skin that helps replenish moisture, shield skin against free radical damage and helps smoothen the appearance of fine lines by hydrating skin. Its a blend of various oils, yet feels quite light - Camellia and Tamanu oils help restore the skin’s natural barrier, an essential lipid blend that includes Orchid Flower and Chia Seed Oil smoothes visible lines and locks in critical moisture, while Sunflower, Rice Bran and Rosemary Extracts create a luminous antioxidant shield against free radical damage.
The oil comes packaged in an opaque glass bottle which, when held upside down for 2-3 seconds initiates product flow. Dermalogica also recommends using a few drops with a makeup sponge, over foundation, for a luminous finish. While I haven't tried using it over foundation, I have used it quite a lot over cleansed skin, especially in the night. Its a lightweight oil that sinks instantly - I use about 2-3 drops and let it absorb completely and follow up with moisturizer, if needed. It is hydrating by itself, even on my dry skin, but I would need a little something extra, come winter. The scent is divine and the oil itself adds a beautiful healthy glow without feeling greasy or heavy. I also like to add a drop or two to moisturizers during the day, but this one has mostly been a nighttime oil for me and I love it. Overall, its a beautiful oil for drier skin types and is now a part of my night time skincare routine as I rotate it with other oils and serums about 2-3 times in a week. It does leave skin feeling very glowy, smooth and extremely hydrated.
