L’Occitane releases a limited edition product every year for Women’s Day and 100% of the precedes go to financing finance NGO projects for women’s leadership in Burkina Faso. L’Occitane’s relationship with the women of Burkina Faso goes back over thirty years and the connection is Shea butter. For the women of this region, harvesting Shea is more than just a job - a special, symbolic tradition to pick the nuts off the Karite tree and churn them into the paste-like butter.
This year its the Rose scented Limited Eition Shea Butter Ultra Soft Balm ($6; usa.loccitane.com), a fabulous multi purpose product with a gorgeous scent. I’ve been on a rose kick lately and this, along with the Laura Mercier Infusion de Rose Lip Balm have both been among my most used rose based products in rotation. There are plenty of uses for this little tin and some ways I like to use it are as a cuticle balm, to tame flyways, as a lip balm and spot treating dry spots, to name a few. Its a slightly waxy balm that melts when warmed up in between fingers and sinks in nicely without feeling too greasy.
