Essence makes some very affordable makeup and a few of their recent eyeliner launches are very impressive, especially considering the fabulous under $5 price tag. The Gel Eye Pencils (Waterproof) ($2.99; ulta.com) come in a few intense shades and a smooth, easy to use formula that glides on the lash lines. I haven’t tried them on my very sensitive waterline though, but on the lash line, they are great! The colors are pigmented, intense and remind me of a cheaper, affordable version of the Urban Decay 24/7 glide-on pencils.
The Essence Superfine Eyeliner Pen ($2.99; ulta.com) and the Easy to Use Jumbo Eyeliner Pen ($2.99; ulta.com) are both basic black liquid liners. They’re both not waterproof, but quite easy to use even for a beginner. I found the Superfine Eyeliner Pen a tad easier though and the line more precise, but the Jumbo Eyeliner Pen isn’t all that difficult as well and is good for a slightly thicker line. My only qualm is that they can both bleed a little, but the intensity is buildable, so shorter strokes make the job easier.
