Smashbox Brow Tech Matte Pencil in Brunette ($21; sephora.com;Press Sample) is an ultrafine tipped brow pencil with a non-waxy, matte finish. The pencil comes in a twist up form with a spoolie attached on one end.
Brunette is a slightly warm brown for my hair color, but not so much that it pulls red. My brows aren’t too thick or thin, so the fine point is good for days when I want minimal filling and an extremely natural looking, not so drawn in brow. It is not too waxy, and a tad more pigmented than other brow pencils I’ve tried, more like a brow powder in a pencil form. Founder and CEO of Wink Brow Bar, Umbreen Sheikh says, "brow powders are best to not make your brows look overdone or fake when you have sparse or thinned brows. I prefer this over any other type of product, as it ensures the natural, yet bold look that is so popular now". I would call this pencil a matte brow powder in a pencil form and since I don't go in for the super drawn in look, this texture is good for that. I do prefer ones with a slanted tip for a better arch, but this works too when I don’t want too much precision. It is quite easy to go overboard with this one as it does seem a tad pigmented for a brow pencil, but running the spoolie through your brows once ensures any excess is removed. Overall, If you have very less to fill in or like a very natural, not too groomed brow look, I’d recommend the Smashbox Brow Tech Matte Pencil.
