NARS’ new Soft Velvet Loose Powder ($36; narscosmetics.com), a new formula of loose powder that has launched this Spring, comes in eight shades ranging from a soft white to a dark bronzy brown, covering a variety of skintones. The Soft Velvet Loose Powder in Eden is a sheer, silky powder that can be worn over makeup to set, or on its own.
Eden has a good amount of yellow and is a nice match for medium-tan skin tones. The coverage is pretty sheer, but when worn over a light base like a tinted moisturizer, it evens things out nicely and adds a soft, satin matte finish. I have pretty dry skin and this din’t feel cakey or look too powdery either. I like to use a big fluffy brush to dust it all over the face or where needed to set things in place. The powder is very finely milled, similar in texture to the Laura Mercier Invisible Setting Powder, but a bit more yellow, which looks very natural and photographs well. My favorite way to use NARS’ Soft Velvet Loose Powder is over NARS’ Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer. A good concealer is still needed for blemishes and under the eyes, but this combination works really well for a fresh, natural look!
