Peter Thomas Roth’s colorful looking masks have always intrigued me & I finally got around to trying out a few of them as part of the Mini Mask Magic Kit ($20; sephora.com). The kit comes with three mini sizes of the Cucumber Gel Mask (Detoxifying), Rose Stem-Cell Bio Repair Gel Mask (Calming, Age Repair) and the Pumpkin Enzyme Mask (Exfoliate and Polish). The sizes are a almost like a deluxe sample, but I’ve had these for a while and still have a good few uses left.
The Cucumber Gel Mask is a thicker, jelly consistency that feels very calming on the skin. It does dry to a slightly tacky finish, so that’s when I wash it off. I’m not sure if it does detoxify, but I like how it refreshes skin. The Rose Stem Cell Bio Repair Mask is quite similar in texture to the Cucumber Mask, a bit less dense in consistency and easier to spread. Much similar to the Cucumber mask, this one too feels amazing on the skin. It is quite calming and quite gentle on my sensitive skin. PTR recommends using both these masks as moisturizers as well, but I found the texture a bit tacky for that. I would much rather keep them refrigerated and use them as refreshing masks. Both masks need a good moisturizer afterwards, especially if you have dry skin. Nothing miraculous, but a good way to pamper yourself. The Rose Stem Cell Gel Mask especially smells divine.
The Pumpkin Enzyme Mask is a scrub/mask and quite a nice exfoliating treatment that gets rid of dull, dry skin without irritation. I just scrub a small amount on my face, leave it on for 5-7 minutes and wash off. It does leave skin feeling smoother, softer and a tad drier, but nothing a good moisturizer can’t fix. I love the scent as well, its a sweet pumpkin scent that doesn’t linger too much. I have pretty sensitive skin and found this quite gentle, but the AHA’s can leave skin prone to sunburn so be sure to use a good sun block and also to use this in the evenings preferably.
Overall, the Rose Stem Cell and Cucumber Gel Masks are nice to have, refreshing and cooling, but nothing miraculous. The Pumpkin Enzyme Mask is nothing miraculous as well, but it is a pretty good exfoliator that does the job without too much irritation and instantly polishes skin.
