NARS' newest foundation, the All Day Luminous Powder Foundation ($48; narscosmetics.com), is a medium buildable coverage broad spectrum SPF 24 foundation that comes in 15 shades. All Day Luminous also features NARS' exclusive Light Reflective Complex that optimizes light reflection, while a blend of 17 amino acids and Vitamin C derivatives and Marine Fennel promote cell renewal and help reduce the look of hyper pigmentation. *Press Samples
I have here two shades from the All Day Luminous range, Stromboli and Barcelona, both of which have worked for me in their Sheer Glow range. Stromboli is a tad more yellow than Barcelona, and my skin is currently at a situation where I mix both these shades. In the winter when I'm quite lighter though, I'm guessing I could get away with Stromboli since I use this with a lighter hand. This foundation comes with a sponge, which can be used for heavier coverage, but I love to use this more as a setting powder over my NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer (St.Moritz). I use a less dense, fluffy brush and apply it as a sheer layer over my tinted moisturizer.
The finish isn't flat like many powder foundations if used this way and there's a certain sheen that keeps it from looking completely matte which I quite like. If you have dry skin though, be sure to moisturize well since it can emphasize certain dry spots, especially if you like using it with a sponge. The packaging is nice, but I found it a tad tricky initially to get the hang of - the sponge applicator resides on the lower side of the compact, so opening it too wide will make the foundation snap on the lid, leaving a bit of a residue on the mirror - just something to keep in mind if you travel with it. That apart, I think its a very good, finely milled, medium coverage foundation and a great setting powder over light coverage bases and if you are lucky enough to have close to perfect skin, you could just get away with a light dusting of this over moisturizer and it would last all day!
