Make Up For Ever's Artist Shadows ($21 for refill; sephora.com) are a fairly new launch from the brand that come in 210 colors and in 5 finishes of matte, satin, iridescent, metallic and diamond. The shadows come as refills that can be popped onto Make Up For Ever's compacts that are magnetized. The Artist Liner ($19; sephora.com) was also released as part of the fall collection, along with the shadows.
The eyeshadows are smooth, blendable, have great color payoff with little to no fallout. I can't speak for all of the shades, but the shades I've tried I-662, I-330 and M-558 are in par with some of the best shadows I've tried so far. I-662 is a gorgeous golden bronze which is perfect for a sheer wash and something I've worn a lot, it has beautiful, finely milled shimmer and a satiny sheen to it. M-558 is a matte taupe brown that I can use as a liner, on the crease, outer corner and to fill in my brows when needed. Its a beautiful matte finish that is also easy to blend - perfect for setting dark eyeshadows too. I-330 is not a color I would normally gravitate towards, but the quality of the shadow is amazing, just like the others.
Make Up For Ever also sent me an Artist Liner in M-10 Black, which unfortunately broke during transit such that I couldn't get the twist up mechanism to work. From my limited 1-2 trials though, I found it to be a great liner for the lash and waterline that doesn't set immediately, so can be smudged away easily for a slight smokey look. The color payoff was intense, but it doesn't seem to be very waterproof though. Overall, love the shadows, they are fabulous and the huge array of colors and different finishes make sure there's something for everyone's liking.
