Chanel Le Vernis Sweet Star

Chanel's Limited-Edition, exclusive nail polish, Sweet Star ($27; chanel counters; Neiman Marcus), finally launched here in the US after much wait & I couldn't help but pick up a bottle of this gorgeous shade. Sweet Star is a beautiful metallic polish that flashes purple, green, grey and even blue, depending on the light. Its quite a unique polish and nothing similar to what I have in my collection.

Chanel polishes have a thin brush, which I really like for my small nails. Sweet Star has a thin consistency, but manages to look quite opaque in two coats. Its quite a high maintenance polish that needs a smooth nail surface to look flawless. I do have quite a few ridges here and there and this one brings out every little flaw there is on the nails. On the plus side, Sweet Star din't have that many brush strokes as I had expected it to. The color shift was quite difficult for me to capture on camera, especially when on my nails, so it looks like a metallic grey for the most part in my swatches, but it is quite complex in real life. I've had Sweet Star painted on for about three days now and there is quite a bit of tip wear and chipping going on on which isn't surprising, since I have terrible wear time from most polishes in general. Overall though, its a pretty fabulous color, a bit tricky to work with, but definitely unique and worth picking up if you can get hold of one!

  1. I know what you mean about not being able to capture the shift. I have the same problem with my swatches. I think I'll swatch this at the Chanel counter this week.

If you like color shifting polishes, you should check out ILNP. They're on Etsy and they have their own site.
