Pale Barley ($29; burberry.com; Nordstrom) is one of Burberry's most raved about eye shadows and I finally got to try it out myself. Pale Barley is a gorgeous, shimmery, golden neutral with a hint of taupe. The shimmer is super finely milled that translates to a beautiful sheen on the lids and the texture is absolutely fantastic and blends like a dream, just like the other eye shadows from Burberry.
Pale Barley can look a little frosty when packed on heavily, especially on my skintone, so I prefer a sheer wash. Plus neutrals are always beautiful when worn that way. It looks great by itself or when paired with a darker color in the crease and outer corners. I love how beautifully it pairs with Burberry's Midnight Brown - both are on my must-have list and if you have a problem with Pale Barley's shimmer while on its own, try pairing it with midnight brown to take the frostiness down a notch! Texture wise, Pale Barley is just as smooth as the other Burberry shadows I own, but there is quite a bit of fall out - nothing unmanageable, but definitely there especially when picking it up with a natural hair brush. I love the subtle gold pop from Pale Barley and think its an excellent shade to have for just about any time of the year.
As to how it compares with MAC's Patina, I think they look quite similar in the pan, but Patina is just a tad more golden, while Pale Barley is a touch more taupe-y, when swatched. Not much of a difference while worn and both have that gorgeous duo chrome finish. Pale Barley is a lot more softer & smoother in texture when compared to Patina. Overall, its definitely a must have eye shadow from Burberry that is quickly becoming one of my favorite, easy to wear neutrals!

Yay! Pale Barley! It looks exquisite on you. The texture and color are both so flattering on your skin. I love it paired with mindnight brown, too, but I especially love it worn as a sheer wash. So pretty and sophisticated! :)
