Maybelline Dream Fresh 8-in-1 Beauty Balm in Medium

Maybelline's Dream Fresh Beauty Balm ($7.49, Target) is an 8-in-1 skin perfector with a sheer tint that also comes with an SPF of 30. The Beauty Balm comes in 5 shades and I chose Medium, which is a good match for quite a few medium-dark skin tones. While I don't think this compares to any of the asian BB creams that I've tried (texture and formula wise), it still is a very good tinted moisturizer and skin perfector that you can use under or instead of foundation. Maybelline does not promise any long term benefits from this one, but, it sure does provide nice coverage, doubling up as a great sunscreen.

The texture, although a little on the runny side, feels very creamy, moisturizing and super light. If you have very oily skin, you could very well skip moisturizer in the summer. This Beauty Balm is super easy to blend just using fingers and very buildable too. It does a great job covering tiny spots and blemishes, evening out skin tone but, for any major discoloration or dark circles, I still need a concealer.  It does have a very slight, greasy finish, nothing a dusting of powder can't fix.

Wearing Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream in Medium with MAC MSF Natural in Medium Dark

Overall, although marketed by Maybelline as a BB cream, this one is perfect as a tinted moisturizer, when you need a little coverage and want to look put together without using too many products at once. I really like the shade selection here and since it is sheer, a shade lighter or darker can still be adjusted to match your skin tone with a little bit of blending. A great drugstore TM when you don't want to spend too much on the pricer ones that come with the same amount of coverage.

Have you tried the Maybelline Dream Fresh 8-in-1 Beauty Balm?

  1. I am waiting for my summer tan to fade, so I can try Medium. Hopefully CVS will hold a sale soon. :)

  2. the American brand BB creams are below-par, as they are years behind in this specific field. They are much cake-ier, stickier, and more foundation like than what they promise. If you really want to try great BB creams, try Korean brand BB creams. It's where it originated and they truly have the best. Depending on what company, some will feel closer to foundation than not. But over quality is superb all across the board.

I'm slightly tan, have mild blemishes, and have slightly oily skin, I've been using true BB creams, the Korean kinds, for 6 years, and I refuse to use anything else, as well as my friends who use Korean BB creams. It's truly the best!!

  3. American cosmetic companies are way late in developing BB cream. Koreans have had this for ages, and they originated the idea of all-in-one coverage. I've been using various Korean companies' brands for more than 6 years, and it is the best. Most of my friends who are Korean also use BB creams and we all refuse to use anything else but the kinds from Korea. Not only does it truly deliver all that is promised of BB creams, it is the only one that works!

Downside of maybelline, garnier, and other brands who are just now catching up is that they wear more like foundation rather than the nice, silky, light, moisturizing, lotion-like consistency that BB creams are supposed to be. They are heavy and they clog pores after repeated use! I've also found that they can be a bit streaky

If you truly want THE BB cream, go to any Korean grocery stores, they usually have a section where Korean cosmetic companies sell their stuff, and buy it from there. Or order online. it's not comparable to these mediocre ones

    1. I totally agree with you. Like I said, this is merely a tinted moisturizer marketed as a BB cream. It doesn't have any good for your skin ingredients but does a fairly good job evening out skin and is great for the price. I've tried quite a few Korean BB creams from Skin79, Skin Food and Missha and I know what you mean :) Most of them don't have a good match for complexion, but the ones that do, do a great job covering majority of scars and discoloration without the need for a foundation!
