Is Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Sunset a MAC Viva Glam V Dupe?
Kinda sorta yes but, not completely! I got Rimmel's Moisture Renew Lipstick in "Sunset" before MAC Viva Glam V in an attempt to save some bucks since I read a lot of reviews on how fantastic a dupe Sunset was. But, I ended up getting Viva Glam V anyways since, it does have a bit more of a pinky undertone compared to Sunset. And since I have pigmented lips, it does make quite a bit of a difference in the way it looks on me. Even if your lips are not so pigmented, you can still see a very subtle difference but, it's that pink in Viva Glam V that makes it look slightly better against my skin tone.
Now, both these are quite frosty and pack a lot of shimmer. Formula wise, I like both of them. I'm not a big fan of MAC's lustre finishes. They do dry my lips quite a bit once the color starts fading. In that way, Rimmel moisture renew is quite comparable. The Rimmel lipsticks do have a slight scent. I'm not put off by it but, I do prefer MAC's vanilla scent over this.And of course there's the price difference. Although MAC lipsticks are one of the most affordable, better quality lipsticks out there, the $8.50 price difference is not something anyone would want to ignore! They look identical in the tube but once swatched, you can see the color difference quite a bit.
Overall, Sunset is definitely a good alternative but not a dead-on dupe. That said, I like both these lipsticks and if you are willing to ignore the slight undertone difference and want to save some moolah, Sunset is a great pick!

ReplyDeleteLooks close enough to me, but I think I'd go with the Rimmel, just based on color - I prefer lipsticks that pull peachy, rather than pink :D

ReplyDeleteI think they're close, but the peachy tones in Sunset would be a deal breaker for some. Peachy tones either work for you, or they don't.
