Smashbox Soft Effects Powder Eye Liner in Black

Smashbox Soft Effects Powder Eye Liner comes in four different shades with a soft wand applicator to line and define eyes for a smudged, smokey look. I use it instead of a black eyeshadow, more like a setting powder, on top of kohls that tend to smudge quite a bit on me(Hello, MAC Feline!). The soft, powdery texture adheres well on top of any liner and helps stay on longer without transferring all over the place. The concept is almost like one of those L'Oreal HIP powder kohls but, Smashbox Soft Effects has a much softer and a more finely milled texture.

What I like about Smashbox Soft Effects Powder Eye Liner:
  • The texture of this powder eyeliner is very fine and extremely soft.
  • The wand helps line the upper/lower lashline perfectly providing a nice grip.
  • I also like to use this by itself or as a setting powder on top of pencil eyeliners to soften the look especially, along the lower lash line.
  • Makes even the smudgiest of kohls last longer. MAC Feline, which starts to smudge all over the place after a couple of hours on me, stays put for 4-5 hours when set with Soft Effects. When used alone, this powder eyeliner lasts for 3-4 hours before which it starts fading. Also, when used alone, powder eyeliners seem much less pigmented than their liquid/pencil counterparts which makes them look less stark.

The not so good things about Smashbox Soft Effects Powder Eye Liner:
  • The powdered texture can sometimes get really messy. Since the applicator is quite wobbly, there is quite a bit of fall out!
  • The price! $22 does seem kinda expensive since, this works much better as a setting medium rather than by itself.
Smashbox Soft Effects Powder Eye Liner is well worth a try if, you are looking for an eyeliner that creates a soft, smokey look, without settling onto fine lines and also doubles up as a great setting powder extending the wear of certain eyeliners.

  3. I have a similar one from Annabelle (Canadian brand) but I rarely get any use out of it. But having said that, I barely get any use out of 99.08% of my stash :P
